Saturday, October 25th, 2008
Hudson Valley- EastBus Departs: 9:30AM (begins boarding midtown at 9:10 AM)
Bus Returns: Approx. 6:30PMOn October 25th our bus will again venture out to the beautiful Hudson Valley. (this time primarily to the Eastern side – also check out our Oct 18th trip to the western Hudson Valley). Our first stop will be Millbrook Vineyards in beautiful Dutchess County – a great place to be in Fall foliage season.
After tours, tastings and a casual “al fresco” lunch at Millbrook (the region’s largest winery) we’ll move on to Clinton Vineyards & Winery a few miles away. With it’s crisp, delicious Seyval Blanc, its savory dessert wines, the champagne (they’re the exclusive Hudson Valley producer of sparkling wines fermented in the bottle in the time-honored “methode champenoise”) and cassis, it’s no wonder that Clinton Vineyards is always a favorite stop on our Hudson Valley tour.
Our current plans are to venture west across the Hudson on the Mid Hudson Bridge after we visit Clinton for a visit to Stoutridge Vineyard in Marlboro, N.Y. This is an impressive new winery with a handsome facility modeled upon German winery design in the European tradition.
Grape Getaways trips are both fun and informative… on the ride out we’ll provide wine appreciation tips. The wine tastings at each vineyard are included in the price as is lunch.
We strive to keep our pricing competitive so we can offer our guests value as well as a good time. Due to the increase in gasoline costs we’ve raised our prices slightly this year. The prices below include the gas surcharge:
Regular Registration: $120 per person
Early registration: $105 per person (until October 15th)
Members of affiliate organizations and groups of 4 or more: $99 per person
Below is more detailed information on each winery – you can click on the underlined link to visit their web sites.
Millbrook Vineyards & Winery - Millbrook is considered one of the top wineries not only of the region but all of New York State. Their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc have won acclaim from critics and consumers alike, not to mention the many other wines in their portfolio. The guided tour of their winery will provide pointers about the winemaking process and you are certainly going to enjoy the savory pleasures of the tasting to follow. After the tasting, and time permitting, you may want to take a stroll by the beautiful ponds on their 130-acre estate and take in the scenic views.

Clinton Vineyards - This vineyard in the heart of Dutchess County’s rolling hills and farmland is replete with country charm and pastoral beauty. The vineyards were established in 1976 by Ben Feder, a pioneer in Hudson Valley viticulture who recognized that the local terroir was ideal for the Seyval Blanc grape. Clinton is reminiscent of a premium European estate where a select number of wines and champagnes are estate bottled. We will try several of them, including some of their luscious dessert wines, Cassis and champagne.
Stoutridge Vineyard is located in Marlboro, New York, 70 miles north of Manhattan and one of the newest in the region. It opened it 2006. The vineyards are half a mile from the beautiful Hudson River on a ridge of land on which grapevines and fruit trees have been continuously planted for 200 years. The Marlboro area has a rich history of fruit and wine production and during the 1800's was the principal supplier of fresh fruit for New York City. The winery was built on the site of an historic homestead farm, and the farmhouse was restored on its original foundation. The new state-of-the-art winery which has a capacity of 15,000 cases a year, was built on the original winery site.
Stoutridge specializes in Germanic style white wines from the Pinot Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Muscat and Riesling varieties, and Northern Italian style red wines from the Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Teroldego and Refosco varieties. They also offer for sale a selection of superb New York State grape and fruit wines
